Project Description

The Freeman’s Journal

Colum Kenny Papers

The Freeman’s Journal (the paper of the Irish Parliamentary party) suffered many setbacks during the revolutionary period 1916–1923. In March 1922, having taken offence at its coverage of the Irish Civil War, anti-Treaty forces destroyed the paper’s printing presses. Determined not to lose an issue, this emergency edition of the paper was published to ensure that continuity of publication was maintained. The paper finally ceased publication in 1924.
